Born out of The Global Innovation Lab for Climate Finance - a global initiative that supports the identification and piloting of cutting edge climate finance instruments – Climate Investor One aims to help fast-track renewable energy projects in developing countries, mobilizing an estimated $2bn in finance, and reducing 1.5mn tonnes of CO2 per annum.
In December 2010, the 196 Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) agreed to a long-term global objective to keep the increase in long-term average temperatures to below two degrees Celsius. Launched at COP21 in December 2015, Climate Investor One capitalizes on the recognition by national governments that fully committed, urgent and innovative solutions are required to reach these targets.
